Start with what is backing up

If only one fitting is slow, keep the first checks close to that fitting. If an outside chamber is full, open the next safe access point downstream; a clear chamber after a full one confines the blockage to the pipe between them.

Check with NI Water where the problem may be shared

NI Water maintains the public sewer network while private drains remain the responsibility of the owner or occupier they serve, so the route and connection point matter when deciding whom to call.

If the same drain keeps blocking

If the same Belfast drain has been cleared several times, ask the contractor to record the distance to the obstruction. After jetting, CCTV at that measured point can show whether roots, an open clay joint or a distorted pipe are causing the repeat failure.

Choose the repair after you have seen the defect

For repair work, ask to see the camera footage and the measured position. One damaged joint may take a local repair. A pipe that has lost its bore or shifted badly out of alignment is more likely to need excavation.
