Start with what is backing up

With an accessible chamber, compare what happens before and after the suspected section. A full chamber followed by a clear one pins the blockage between those points. If the chambers are clear and only the kitchen sink is slow, the underground main may not be involved at all.

If the same drain keeps blocking

Where a blockage comes back in the same section, note how far the rods or jet travel before they meet resistance. Once the run is clean, a camera at that distance can reveal a step, root entry or heavy scale that would otherwise be missed.

Choose the repair after you have seen the defect

Do not agree to a long replacement simply from a brief camera description. Ask how much pipe is damaged and where it lies. A short defect may be repaired locally; major displacement or collapse usually needs the affected section exposed.
